Today, I’m going to show you exactly how you can start your own blog using Bluehost. If you’re not already sold on the idea of starting a blog, let me try to convince you.
See blogging can be pretty life-changing. You can learn new skills using your blog, like social media marketing, some graphics design (someone has to make those Pinterest pins!), and learn how to network. Also the income potential is pretty unlimited – there’s tons of different ways to make money with your blog. You can do sponsored posts, have ads, create your products and sell them to your audience – or you could do all of those things!
Okay so you want to start a blog, but don’t know where to start?
Yeah, I was like that too about a year ago. But listen, you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to walk you through the steps of starting a blog.
You can have your blog up and running in the next 20 minutes, so grab a drink and get comfy! Let’s do this!
Before we start, I just want to throw something out there. If you have any issues with the inital set-up (or just want a second opinion on something) just shoot me an email! [email protected], I’ll try my best to answer as quickly as possible.
Okay okay, now let’s start!
Get Your Hosting And Domain Name
Okay, so the first thing you will need is a domain name (the URL), and some hosting for the domain. The domain is what people type in to visit your website, and the hosting is basically what puts it on the web / makes it visible to people – so pretty important stuff!
Get Your Hosting
First you want to think of a good name, something memorable and easy to spell. Once you’ve figured out a name, then you can register your domain with the webhost of your choosing.
I personally think you should pick Bluehost – and here’s why:
- Bluehost has some of the best prices for hosting. For only $3.95 a month, you can have hosting!
- Bluehost gives you a free domain name! Sometimes this is something you have to buy separately, and it can cost anywhere from $5-$15.
- Bluehost makes it really, really easy to get started, they have a very cool installer that installs WordPress for you quickly (just one click!).
- Bluehost has amazing support, you can reach them by phone, email, or live chat, and support is available 24/7! Perfect for when you try to install a new plugin and it breaks your website (uh.. totally not speaking from experience).
- Also if you aren’t totally statisfied with Bluehost, they have a 30-day money back guarantee!
- Did I mention you can get a domain name, hosting, great customer service, and wordpress installed for just $3.95 a month?!
Once you’ve selected your webhost, it’s time to get your hosting!
You can go to this page to get the process started.
Just click the green Get Started button.
Then, pick your hosting plan. You can select from basic, plus, or choice plus. If you’re new to all of this, just pick the basic plan, you can always upgrade later on! You can select your plan by clicking on the green select button.
Get Your Domain
Now it’s time to get your domain! Enter the name you’ve picked out into the “new domain” section.
Finalize Your Plan
Next is where you finalize your choice for the hosting and domain, and put in your payment information. You’ll be able to select your account plan and how many months you’d like to prepay (select 36 months or 60 months for the lowest monthly price!).
Then you’ll be able to pick from some extras, you don’t really need any of these honestly.
I do HIGHLY suggest getting the Domain Privacy Protection (it’s only $0.99 a month). The Domain Privacy Protection keeps whatever information you put in for the registration of your domain totally private – this includes your name and address.
Payment & Account Finalization
This is pretty self-explanatory, just input your payment information and you’re done with getting your domain and hosting!
After you make your payment, you’ll be prompted to choose a password for your account. Once you choose your password you’ll be able to log in. When you’ve got all of that finished, you can start playing around with your account, and you will be able to install WordPress!
After you’ve set up your account by picking a username and password, wordpress should be installed for you, and then Bluehost will beging walking you through how to set up your blog.
***Bluehost and WordPress will also be emailing you some important information so don’t forget to check your email (yes, spam folder too!).
Boom you’re done! You’ve set up your blog!
Okay, you’ve got your hosting, domain, and have installed wordpress, you’re now ready to begin making your first post! Have fun!
