Don’t worry I’ll, give you all the important details. I’ll tell you all about Decluttr so you can see if it’s right for you!

What is Decluttr?

Decluttr is a website where you can buy and sell your electronics, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, video games, and more.

According to their Better Business Bureau profile, they’ve been in business since 2014, and are based out of Kennesaw, GA.

CDs: If you have some CDs that you no longer want, you can sell them to Decluttr. Before you send them in, don’t forget to save the music to your computer.

Make sure everything is in good condition (everything works, no broken cases, etc). You can see the quality assessment guidelines here.

Books: You can sell your books that are in good condition. There can’t be any missing or damaged pages (no highlighting or writing), no discoloration, and no substantial damage to the cover. You can read more here.

They don’t buy every book (of course), and you will usually get the most money for textbooks.

Legos: Decluttr also will purchase authentic Lego bricks. They pay by the pound. It seems like this would be a great option if you have a lot of random Lego pieces, but if you have any sets you might be better off selling those on eBay or locally.

How does Decluttr work?

I’ll walk you through the Decluttr process. Here’s how it works:

Gather Your Items

The first thing you need to do is figure out what you’re going to sell.

  1. Go through each room in your house and gather up any books, tech, phones, videos games, etc that you no longer want or need.
  2. Quickly sort through the items and toss out the things that no longer work.
  3. Go through each remaining item and check it out, is the case cracked, is the disc heavily scratched? Separate the items (“good” condition items in one pile, and everything else in another pile).

Get a Valuation from Decluttr

  1. Head over to Decluttr and start searching for your tech, books, video games and whatever else you have in your “good condition” pile. (You can also use the Decluttr app to do this!)
  2. Add the item you want to sell to your basket, and when you’re done check out the total.
  3. Make sure you’re okay with parting with the items for the amount that Decluttr offers you.

Complete the Order

Once you’ve completed the order, they will send what they call a “welcome pack” to your email.

This welcome pack contains the label you will use to ship your items to Decluttr. Here’s what you need to do next:

  1. Pack up your items into a box (make sure you do this carefully so everything arrives safely). If you need more than one label you can sign into your account and request one.
  2. Once your box is packed up and ready to go, you can drop it off at your local post office, or your can schedule a pickup online.

Get Paid

Once your items arrive at the Decluttr warehouse, they will check to make sure everything is in good condition, then your payment will be issued!

Pretty easy, right?

And here’s the official video from Decluttr that explains how it works:

How does payment work?

Decluttr will process your payment the day after your items have been processed.

You also get a choice of payment method. You can choose between direct deposit, PayPal, check, or donating the money to charity.

So is Decluttr.com legit?

Yes! While they have had some hiccups, Decluttr has a Trustpilot score of 4.5 (out of 5) and a Better Business Bureau rating of B!

You can see on their Better Business Bureau profile that there have been some issues with slow payment, but most of the issues have been resolved.

You should feel perfectly okay with sending in your items (and receiving payment!). Let me know if you end up using Decluttr! I’d love to know what you thought about it!

Decluttr Review

If you’re looking for a simple way to get rid of items you no longer need, I think Decluttr is a great option.

If you’re willing to put in a little bit more work (checking other websites, selling items individually), I think you can make substantially more by using other websites. Just check around!

Decluttr Alternatives

Books: For books you can sell them locally (through Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace), you can see if you can trade it in on Amazon, or you can use Bookscouter. Bookscouter will check multiple websites and show you which website will pay you the most for your books.

Video Games: You can sell your games locally (through Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace), you can trade them into GameStop, or you can try to sell them yourself on eBay. You can also see if you can trade them in on Amazon.

Music and Movies: You can sell CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays individually on eBay, trade them into Amazon, or you can check SecondSpin.

Phones, Tablets, Laptops: For phones, tablets, and laptops I highly recommend you use Gazelle, they give you a great price, pay quickly, and they give you a free label to ship your items. If you want to try selling these items yourself, you could go through eBay, trade them into GameStop, or use Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
